With Summer either behind us or before us, depending on how you look at life, amusement rides may be the last thing on your mind right now.  But with several highly publicized accidents throughout 2011, where does one turn to find out who operates safely and who does not?  And where does responsibility transfer from operator to rider? 

A tremendous resource for information on these issues is available online at www.ridesafeny.org.  This website details the responsibilities of riders, their parents, and the operators of rides.  Some of the rules may seem like common sense but need to be reiterated for those who may not see danger in certain situations.  The fun and excitement of an amusement park can overshadow one’s sense of safety.
